Every Saturday morning, Maya woke up early. Today was special — she was going to the market with Grandma Celestine!
The market was bright and noisy! Vendors called out: 'Sweet mangoes! Ripe plantains! Fresh fish!' The smells of spices filled the air.
Grandma stopped at Miss Pearl's stall. 'Good morning, Miss Pearl!' she said, smiling. 'Always greet your neighbours with respect,' Grandma told Maya.
Maya helped carry the yams and sweet potatoes. She met Mr. Ramos the farmer. 'These carrots are from MY garden!' he said proudly.
Maya saw a little boy drop his bag of oranges. Without thinking, she helped pick them up. The boy smiled and said 'Thank you!'
On the way home, Grandma said: 'You were responsible and kind today, Maya. That is what makes a good community — people caring for each other.'
Our community is stronger when we greet each other, help one another, and show responsibility.
